Doctors - what is your opinion about the different types of birth control pills? I asked this already and did not receive any good answers. I was on Ortho-Tricyclen Lo for years, had no bad effects. My doctor recently pushed Yaz on me...but I'm suspicious of his motives.

What types of birth control cause little weight gain and few mood swings?? I have been dating my boyfriend for 4 years. During this time, I've attempted 2 types of birth control (orthotricyclen and yasmin 28). I was only on each for 2 months. I experienced horrible mood swings and about 10 pounds of weight gain on each one. I'm about 5'9" and like to keep my weight under 140. I weigh 140 now and have scheduled a doctors appointment to try another type of birth control. What birth control brands work well with little weight gain and few mood changes?? In Orthodox Judaism, what are the circumstances which will permit birth control to be used and what types? Can anyone provide a complete list of general exceptions to the use of birth control and what types are permitted in any type of hierarchical order? I realize many situations are fact specific, but can someone provide a broad general list that could allow one to get started with an answer to this difficult question.
Did you know that some types of birth control cause a woman to have an abortion every month? This is a question for those who are pro-life in ALL instances of pregnancy. Chemical methods of birth control are also linked to cancer The ones that cause abortions are; Copper T IUD, Progestasert IUD, The Mini-Pill, The Morning After Pill, and of course RU-486, taken after implantation. The ones that MAY cause abortions are; The Pill, Implants, Shots, Patches, and Vaginal Ring. There are many methods of birth control that do not cause abortions (or cancer). They are called "barrier methods" and they include; abstinence, periodic abstinence (a.k.a. Rhythm Method), condom (male and female versions), diaphragm, cervical cap, Spermicides, and/or surgical sterilization. It is recommended that at least two of these be used at once, as they are still not foolproof. If one fails, the other one can help to cover the "gaps". If you are firmly pro-life, do you believe that the abortifacient methods of birth control are wrong? SOURCE http://abort73.com/HTML/II-D-2-types.html Also, I think people mix up the definitions of "abortion" and "miscarriage" often. Miscarriage - the expulsion of a fetus before it is viable, esp. between the third and seventh months of pregnancy; SPONTANEOUS abortion. Abortion - noun - Also called VOLUNTARY abortion. The removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy. 2. Any of various surgical methods for terminating a pregnancy, esp. during the first six months. Please read SOURCE link above before answering. This IS the research. I'm afraid that reading comprehension is not the strong suit of many on this site. Try reading the entire question and the Source of my question before firing off an "answer". They cause abortions by; First, many fail in their claim to stop ovulation (release of an egg from the ovary). This is called "break through". Second, in the case of "break through" and subsequent fertilization, they then prevent the fertilized egg (which those who are pro-life is the beginning of the human life) from attaching to the lining of the uterus, which would allow the life to continue. Barrier methods, used at least two at a time for added insurance, are successful at preventing fertilization to occur in the first place, thus preventing the "need" to kill that life. Chemical methods are also associated with various kinds of cancer, can cause nausea in women leading to sporadic use on the recommended schedule (leading to unwanted pregnancy), and IUDs have been shown to cause uterine cancer and damage to the uterus. So that no one can attack the source in an effort to refute this assertion, here is the Physicians Desk Reference's product information as listed by Ortho, one of the two largest manufacturers of the Pill, under Ortho-Cept: Combination oral contraceptives act by suppression of gonadotropins. Although the primary mechanism of this action is inhibition of ovulation, other alterations include changes in the cervical mucus, which increase the difficulty of sperm entry into the uterus, and changes in the endometrium which reduce the likelihood of implantation. (The PDR, 1995, page 1775). If you believe that life begins at conception/fertilization, then you have to accept that The Pill can cause an abortion if it fails to stop ovulation and if there is a sperm present to fertilize the egg, creating a HUMAN BEING in the fallopian tubes.

What types of things reduce the effectiveness of birth control? I've heard that certain things (such as some herbal supplements like echinacea) can reduce the effectiveness of birth control. I've searched far and wide for answers on what other types of things can reduce its effectiveness and I can't find anything! Does anyone know of any others? Also, I have also heard that antibiotics can reduce its effectiveness-- what actually qualifies as an antiobiotic.. is it any medicine that your doctor prescribes for you? Thank you!

What type of birth control pill will not make you gain weight? I take Yasmin and it doesn't make me gain weight but it is expensive. I've tried several older birth control pills that were cheaper, but they made me hungry and I started eating like a cow. Does anyone know what the names of the birth control pills that will not make a person hungry or gain weight? Thanks BTW I'm not over weight and I take the pill to keep my cycle regular so there is no need for sarcastic remarks.
Are there any types of Birth Control that completely stop you from ovulating or...? won't change the lining of the uterus? I just found out that the pill I am on changes the lining of the uterus, so that if I do ovulate and the egg is fertilized, it may not be able to implant. The problem is that I feel that once the egg is fertilized, that is "life". So are there any kinds of birth control that won't change the lining of the uterus, or can completely prevent you from ovulating?
What type of birth control should I switch to? I'm currently taking a mini-pill with just progesterone but my doctor said when my son reaches 6 months it becomes less effective and I should switch to a different method. Well he's six months old now. I plan on still nursing him and I've heard that the pill with both hormones can lower your milk supply. I've also heard that you can take something while taking the birth control pill to increase it. My main concern is the hormone getting into my son's system. I don't want to use an IUD (the whole foreign object inside of me and a fertilized egg dying doesn't sound good to me). I'd like to use something more effective than natural family planning or diaphragm /condoms. If I take a low hormone pill do you think that will be okay with still nursing my baby? How do you think the hormone would effect him?
What type of birth control do you prefer while breastfeeding? I just gave birth to my daughter and I am thinking about birth control. I'm not sure of what to choose. I just want to have some ideas to discuss with my doctor when I go to my checkup! Thanks
Anyone taking Nuva Ring or any other type of birth control? I have had problems with panic attacks for several years off and on. I have always been on birth control. Recently, I stopped for about 8 months and I was fine, totally fee from panic problems. Last month I started on NuvaRing again and I am shaky at time. Lots of times I feel like I am going to jump out of my skin. It is very hard for me to feel comfortable. I have been having some minor panic attacks. I wonder if this is a coincidence or does birth control mess with my hormones too much. Has anyone else experienced something similar to this? Also, I didn't consider that the birth control might be doing this to me until my husband noticed that I had been complaining about feeling edgy and anxious.
Opinions on condoms as a type of birth control? condoms are the only type of birth control I can rely on. I've heard about contraceptives but I'm afraid they all do something to my body like shift my period cycle or give me symptoms. Does anyone here feel the same way?
What is the best type of birth control to take? I am 17 and need to understand the diverse and confusing world of birth control. I am looking into either the pill or shot or any other available resources for myself. I need help determining which one is easier and safer so if anyone has any information to give me I would greatly appreciate it. oh am i got the first shot for hpv. i'm going back in a few days for my 2 month follow up.

What types of suppliments and medicines are not good to take with a birth control pill? I have heard ibuprofen and some others? Does anyone know the full list?
Best type of birth control? I'm not looking for birth control to avoid getting pregnant, so please do not lecture me on having sex at a young age if I'm not prepared to get pregnant. I appreciate your concern but I'm not having sex yet. I'm getting on the pill for cramps; I've tried midol, advil, and a lot of other things my doctor has reccomended. I was wondering what type of birth control you all use/have used before, why you do and don't like it, and side effects you've experienced. I really don't want to gain water weight. If there's a different form of birth control (besides the pill) that you would reccomend, please let me know. Thanks!
What type of birth control do you use and are you satisfied? Do you use the pill (which brand?), the shot, Nuvaring, etc for birth control? Do you like it? Any side effects? I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and I am looking for something else to try because I'm not satisfied.
Types of birth control? I don't want to be on the pill because I can't imagine taking some pill not knowing what it'll do to my body. I don't want the patch either. What else can I do besides the obvious of condoms(which is used). Is it safe to just use a condom and nothing else? what else can I do? Thanks. And don't say don't have sex either, that is just annoying and doesn't answer my question.
Switching types of birth control? I've been on Ortho-Tri Clyclen Lo for almost two years and now I've switched to LoEstrin 24. I've only been on one type of BC before (that being ortho-tri cyclen lo) and i never had any problems taking it. I didn't experience weight gain, mood swings or anything like that. In fact, my breasts got a lil bigger, my periods were lighter and shorter and my cramps weren't as bad. I'm just afraid after switching to a new BC I'll experience all those side effects that I didn't experience with Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo like weight gain, moodiness/mood swings, or stuff like that? Anyone with experience or a little insight? I'd greatly appreciate it! I just started LoEstrin sunday. My Dr. said I'd be fine but after reading reviews/comments of others who have tried it I'm afraid I made a wrong choice. Or is everyone really different and do I just have to wait and see how it goes.
Interested in learning more about other types of birth control, currently have mirena...more info? I have had the Mirena IUD for almost 3 years now. I don't have a period which is great, but instead seem to cramp all the time and have many side effects. If you could tell me what you have tried and the pros and cons of the bc, that would be appreciated. Thanks side effects are nausea, tender breast, constant cramping, feeling tired all the time, but it hasn't caused weight gain.
I am getting married in less than 6 months and I need to know what types of birth control are out there.? If someone could at least tell me where I can find information before I go to my OBGYN or knows the facts, that would be great!
What types of alternative birth control methods are available to me? My partner and I currently use two forms of birth control: contraceptive pills and polyurethane condoms (as I'm allergic to latex). Polyurethane condoms are proving to be a pain because there is very little variance in the sizes and can be uncomfortable in sensitive areas, even with lubrication. For these reasons, I'm curious to find out if there are effective altenative forms of birth control that I can us to supplement the pill. If you can help me, I'd appreciate it. Also, if you suggest a method, please let me know the statistics on 'fail' rates (number of reported pregnancies out of one-hundred, during use of said method). Thank you.
what is "combination-type birth control"? this is probably a stupid question, but i wanna be sure i know what it is. is the nuva ring combination-type? is it a certain kind? i feel like an idiot, but my antibiotics (which i posted another question about) say it may interfere with combination-type BC. and i know i should use backup control, but i just want to know if the NUVA is a combination type?
Birth control types? I've just started on a generic for Ortho-Tricyclene, I have used Ortho-Tricylene-Lo before and it was ok. Now my insurance covers the reg. Ortho-Tricyclene better than the 'Lo'. Does anyone know if there's a big difference? If so what are the differences, and should I use Lo instead? I'm 23 yrs old and I don't smoke.
What's the best type of birth control? Pros and cons? What are the pros and cons of different types of birth control? I'm 18 and I want something that will control my periods more than anything...just trying to see what options are out there..... I appreciate all answers but please don't tell me to see a doctor...I'm going to but want opinions from the public too...
will you get pregnant if you use a condom on and use another type of birth control? I've heard that people say that the condom breaks sometimes. So I was just wondering, is it possible for someone to get pregnant if you use the condom properly and is on some type of birth control? (speaking of which, what types of birth controls are there that someone can use without their parents finding out? [the person that i'm asking for have strict parents])
IUD?? Good or bad type of birth control? i've heard a few women say that its very easy and its better than other birth controls. Im wanting to know some womens opinions about this birth control before i actually go through with my decision. I was leaning towards the shot until i looked it up and saw all the symptoms it caused. Now i DEF. don't want the shot, i've used the pill before and i constantly forgot to take it! I've also used the patch and it irritated me and made me gain weight. The only other option that i saw was the IUD...could anyone please tell me their experience with this type of birth control and is it really safe?? Also, i wanted to go see my doctor this week to get on birth control, but i dont have my period until the middle of this month. Do i have to wait to be on birth control the day after my period ends this month? or can i get on it right before my period begins, cuz i've heard that you cant use the patch or the pill until the following sunday after your period, something like that? Please help!

After baby birth control, when to start? Okay, so I had my daughter on Dec. 14th. I had her by c-section, so I only bled for about 3 weeks, then a week later I had a cycle. At my 6 week check up I got a sample pack of seasonale type birth control pills w/ the three months worth of pills. I remember my doctor told me to start them on sunday to avoid confusion since they're all so conviently labeled. But she also told me something about if I start on a sunday.... but I don't remember exactly what she told me. So since I started a cycle today, and today is sunday, do I start them today? Or do I wait for next sunday? Lol, please advise!

He doesn't like to wear a condom but he does anyways for me. i am looking for a birth control that women can use so that the guy does not have to wear a condom. i would also like to stop my periods. how does each type of birth control work? can my man go all the way without me getting pregnant? it would satisfy him so much. Best type of birth control for me? Im currently on the pill Yasmin, which is working fine for me but Im really worried about the side effects. Breast cancer really runs in my family, and so does strokes and high blood pressure. Also, my mom had a really painful ovarian cyst when she was my age, which is also caused by the pill. What other type of birth control do you suggest I try? Im thinking either the patch or the shot, but how effective are they/is anyone of you on these? Thanks!
Should boyfriends have a say in what type of birth control a woman chooses? Should a boyfriend have a say in what type of birth control his girlfriend uses? For example the pill, the shot etc?
Should all Teenagers be forced to take some type of birth control? I think all young people need to be put on some type of birth control. I was so upset when I heard that Jaime Lynn Spears was pregant and she's only 16. I go to a school where I see dozens of girls getting pregant. It's pisses me off. They have they're whole lives ahead of them and they are stuck with this child. When your a teenager you barely know who you are and you don't really have a identity, now that you are stuck with this child you have to be a mother. I just think it's crazy that all of these young girls are getting pregnant like this. If my child was pregant/or got someone pregant I would either kick them out, have an abortion, or give the baby away. I believe it's highly unacceptable to have children out of wedlock. I was born out of wedlock and my mother was looked down upon. I wouldn't bestow the same fate on my kids. Why have a child with someone you don't intend to marry? Why have a child when you don't have a job or you're family isn't ecomonicially stable? All view points are allowed on this. Just don't get rude or nasty with me. Yes, I'm pro-choice and I'm loving it. I'm 17, I'm about to take the birth control shot in Januray I wouldn't care if my children would resent me for kicking them out if they have kids. Legally, you don't have to support you're children once they start having kids. Hugo Rocks-This applies to everyone boys and girls. Boys can get a lot girls pregnant. I think young men need to take a birth control pill also. It is fair, you can never trust a child. ......they say that they won't do it they end up doing it. lilsoutherndancer-so what if it's killing a child. babies die all the time. My unborn brother was died and I'm not sad about it. Dieing is apart of life. And why have something you didn't plan to have or want? That's why we have all these dumb broads getting pregant and being horrible parents. There are some very good teen mothers but most of them are complete garbage. I hate it women people have all these kids and don't take care of them and raise them right. BTW-Thank you everyone for you input
Birth Control that won't lower sex drive? I have been taking Loestrin 24Fe for about six months now and it has lowered my sex drive. When I do have sex, I am very...um...dry down there. I am only 21, so I know it has nothing to with age. This is the first form of birth control (other than condoms) that I have used. I know that people react differently to different brands/types of birth control, but I was just wondering if you all could let me know if there is a certain type of birth control you have taken that hasn't negatively affected your sex drive. I would like to stay on the pill, but would be willing to try another form of highly effective birth control. Also, I really like everything else about the brand I am taking (lighter periods, shorter periods, less PMS symptoms), so if there is another kind with similar benefits, that would be great! Thanks!
Birth control...? Okay first of all I asked a legit question on here. And they said it was a violation! How lame!... But anyway. Hi...I just turned 18, and my mom doesn't know that I'm sexually active. I'd rather keep it that way and not get preggers, you know? But I don't know ANYTHING about birth control. Or what types of birth control there are or where or how to get them. Is there anything I can get over-the-counter that will work, or do I have to get a doctor's appoint.? I'd like to avoid the doctor because that way my mom would find out, and I just would rather not have her kill me for it. What types of birth control are there? What works best? So far all I've been depending on are condoms...and people tell me that's not very safe...I want to feel safe. Can anyone help me? Thank you all for your answers...you've all been a godsend. Even the guy who suggested the crotchkicking. xP
Birth Control Questions..? I'm young and sorta like confused about how birth control works... How does it prevent pregnancy? Is there a certain age you have to be to get birth control? Do all types of birth control help prevent pregnancy? Even the ones like Yaz that are supposed to shorten your period? How do girls get a hold of birth control without their parents knowing if it's given by their doctor? I know these are probably dumb questions..
What birth control is best for me? I'm 19 years old and a college student. I live at home with my mom and have just started a serious relationship. However, my mom doesn't know that I am sexually active and I am now intersted in going on birth control. I'm contemplating the differnt types of birth control and I just don't know which one to choose. I would like to take a pill type bc it seems the least complicated and the most common but I'm scared that my mom will find me taking it. I come from a latin family and we just aren't open about these kind of things. Anyways, I have been involved sexually with my partner and we have been having sex very often and I think I need some protection. I also thought about getting the shot....but I heard that one normally gains about 20 lbs and I would hate to do that! please help ! thanks in advance!
what kind of birth control pills? Okay...so I was searching on google...for "birth control" but i couldn't find anything that really helped me out. I would like to know what types of birth control is the best that you have possibly tried or heard about. I need to be put on birth control before I go to basic training in the army...so that I will have my period less...but without spotting or anything. Do you know a good birth control pill that has few periods without spotting. Or just a really good birth control pill that you took for a while...and you didn't spot...I just need to know what day I start and stuff...so I wont be out there in the field wondering when the heck im starting my period!
I am very curious about Birth Control side effects. Please help!? I was researching birth control and I wanted to ask women with experience about the side effects of Birth Control. I read about weight gain and depression. I don't want either of these. I also heard about nausea and irregular periods. These side effects scare me very much and I was just curious about how common these side effects are. I really want to use Birth Control when I start having a sex life but I fear the side effects. Please tell me about your experiences with birth control and the side effects. Also, if you will, give some suggestions of types of Birth Control that have the least side effects. Thank you very much!
Birth control and condoms? There are tons of different types of birth control, but doctors always tell you to make sure and wear a condom to prevent STD's. Well, if the man and woman are both checked out and neither have STD's, can they have sex, using birth control, without the condom and be safe? Or should you always wear a condom because of other diseases?
Help! What kind of birth control does NOT cause nausea??? I have been on birth control for almost a year now and have tried different types of oral birth control and I cannot find ANY that dont cause nausea. I'm so sick of being nauseus all the time...please help...anyone know of a type of birth control (not including abstinence or a condom) that does NOT have nausea as a side effect??? thanks! :)

birth control? What are some of the different types of birth control for women, what are the side effects, and do any of them allow you to still have your period every month?
Is there a birth control method that wont make me moody? I've been on several types of birth control (Nuvaring, Patch, pill) and they all make me so moody and gain weight. I used to be on Depo and it worked great but it thins out your bones. Can anyone recommend a birth control method that doesn't have so many side affects? I've heard of the copper IUD, is that effective?
The birth control & how to talk to your parents about it? So my boyfriend of 2 years and I took the "big step" about 5 months ago. We've been using condoms, but I'd feel better if I was on the pill, since my cousin has been telling me how effective it is. The problem is I'm not 18 yet. How do I talk to my perants and my doctor about getting on the pill? Are the exams really horrible, because I really don't like the thought of someone down there. If you have other suggestions about other types of birth control [I'm a bit past the abstinence stage so please keep that comment to yourself] and the horrible exam tips, feel free to tell me. Thanks I'm still lokking for answers. For that first answer, we ARE in love. We've been together for 2 years now, it's amutual agreement, and we we're together for a year and a half before doing anything sexual. And I'm 17 by the way, but I have about a year before my next birthday. I just had to say that. Although I think the one answer "go into the room and ask if your perants want to become grandparants" gave me quite a laugh.
What birth control do you use? I'm currently taking the pill and it's just so darn aggrivating to have to take every day!! And i'm just wondering what other girls opinions are on different types of birth control. thanks
UTIs and birth control? Just wondering, if certain types of birth control increase your risk of catching a UTI.
opinions on birth control? I was just looking for some opinions and experience with the different types of birth control options out there and what worked best for you? I am 38 weeks pg with my second so i know i need to start looking into my options so was just wondering... -i know everyones bodies are different but in the past i haven't been to successful with pills (like yasmine, or ortho tri cyclin lo and a few others) because they either make me sick or breakthrough bleeding to much. i refuse to try the patch again b/c i got pregnant with my first on it. IUD's seem to risky, b/c if i do become pregnant than there are alot of risk. what's your guys opinion, what has worked for you. I am not looking for anything permanent b/c we haven't decided if we are going to have any in the future, if we do it won't be for another 4-6 years or so (we have a 2 1/2 year old and one due on the 22).

Do most women get this with birth control? I've noticed that since i've started taking birth control that i've gained about 5lbs. i've very short so gaining 5lbs is quite notiable. is there any other types of birth control that dont have this side effect? Is it average for a woman to gain that much on the pill. It sucks!
Irregular menstrual cycle and birth control is not helping? Most of my life i have had very irregular cycles going four or five months without a period. Then i would bleed for about a month. the doctors would not help they just said it was because i was young. now iam 20 years old it still does it and i have tried multiple types of birth control but nothing works. if anyone has this problem and have found a cure for it or know what may cause it could you please help me?
New type of birth control... myrette or something? They have this new thing that they put in your uterus right. And it has two little strings on it and it is birth control for up to five years. Anyone using it and do you have any advice. I can't seem to remember the pill... this just stays in
