What do you think about menstrual suppression with birth control pills?

There are some pills like Seasonale and Lybrel, wich are giving women the possibility of having no more periods. Did someone has used them or has an opinion about it?

1. I think its unnatural. I don't think its safe no matter what they claim and the women who take these pills are wimps. Real women have periods. haha.

3. According to some research I did many moons ago, that was one of the original intentions of the pill. However, personally, it makes me INCREDIBLY nervous. I can't imagine that it doesn't mess anything up! I am just waiting for it to come out that it can cause death or infertility or something, just like it did with the Ortho Evra Patch. Also, if you are sexually active, isn't it a bit of a relief when your Aunt Flo comes to visit every month? With this, if you were to get pregnant, you may not know for much longer! (I mean, the pill is only 99% effective when used correctly.)

Anything that changes the way the body is designed to function cant be good,maybe you wont notice in the short run but you will in the long run, remember that the industry is always advising you to use their stuff,they protect their business and 20 years later they come out and say well.... we were wrong.

I used to do that all the time with continuous use of the active birth control pills no period while on vacation.. ahhhh no period for a special event or occasion... ahhhh when I stopped taking the pill, I got pregnant ( planned) and gave birth to a very healthy son These is no permanent problem from not having a period due to medication
6. Safety is the same (both benifits and dangers). Some women like that monthly reassurance that they aren't pregnant that a period gives them; others would be happy never to have a period again. Sometimes on long-term hormones like that, you get spotting that is less than a normal period, but not all people experience that.
7. i have heard dr.s just used to tell patients to take pill packs of the old kind back to back, skipping the "period or off week" of pills and go on to the next pack and it would do the same thing and it was ok then, so i'm sure that if now they r formulated intentionally to do that it is even safer.
8. i haven't used either of these (i'm on loestrin), but i do take the no period route and i LOVE it!! i've been doing it for 2 or 3 years and haven't had any cramps, bloating or crankiness (at least not PMS related....). i highly recommend it.

10. Women actually aren't supposed to have as many periods as we do now (12 per year). Originally, tribal people hardly had periods. They were either nursing kids (children used to nurse up to age 4ish) or pregnant. There are so many hormones in foods now that people have periods more often, and girls are starting their periods earlier and earlier. The pill was originally designed to stop periods all together...the makers just thought it would be too much of a shock for american women to warm up to if they marketed the pill to totally stop a period--they thought it would hinder the success of the pill becoming mainstream. So I say go for it!! Supress that damn period!
11. Women in 'western cultures' or 'developed cultures' have more periods than women in other cultures because we have better diets and fewer or no children or don't breast feed. Breast feeding supresses ovulation and periods (or usually does). There are some studies that suggest that having more periods than ever before is actually unhealthy and increasing our risks to certain diseases. Taking birth control pills to supress menstration is no dangerous or unhealthy. I enjoy having the option to have a period or not. I experience terrible cramps and very heavy bleeding and it's no fun and a little distracting when I have to work or go on vacation. Being able to supress menstration levels the womens playing field with men and it's possibly the reason why it's taken so long for people to come up with a marketing scheme like Seasonalle has. The truth is, any monophasic can be used to supress menstration and has been used that way for years. It's freedom really. There is an increase chance of break through bleeding (bleeding while taking active pills). And for the sexually active and paranoid, buying at home pregnancy tests from the dollar store once a month is cheaper than pads and tampons.
12. It gives you such a HIGH dose of hormones I read somewhere you get as much hormones in 10 years while on it that you would normally get in 72!!!!!!
