The drug Lybrel: Would you take it to stop your period completely?

Next month the FDA will approve a drug called Lybrel. It completely stops menstruation: http://www.reason.com/news/show/119900.html According to a study by Lybrel's manufacturer, Wyeth, over two-thirds of women said they were interested in putting an end to "the curse." Those findings were supported by a report by Linda C. Andrist, a professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston. Will you be taking it to end periods completely?

  1. If there was a simple, non drug method to stop my periods, I'd do it, but I worry about pills. First of all, I know I would forget to take them. Second, I don't like the potential side effects of birth control pills (since I would have no other reason to take them besides the menstruation issue - as I do not have sex with men).
  2. Heck yes I would take it! As long as it didn't raise your risk of cervical cancer.
  3. No way, Jose. Menstruation naturally cleans a lady. It is a necessary cycle. This cannot be a safe drug...The FDA is a bunch of degenerate Mafia scum. YAZ is another drug similar.
  4. I think that after a woman has one or two children that she should stop her period, because as women age it starts to become somewhat off-whack.
  5. Miss Linda C. Andrist I presume...Miss Andrist (or Ms. Andrist)? LOL!!! Seriously...even though periods can be such a pain, I wouldn't be messing with nature by stopping them. I can wait another 20 years or so for menopause!
  6. No. Periods might be a pain but they are a natural part of being female. To treat a period like a disease that needs to be eradicated by medication is to imply there is something unhealthy in being a woman. Besides, if you exercise regularly and generally take care of yourself, periods are not that bad. And if you're sexually active, they can be darn good news! (even if you practice safe sex, which I always do.)
  7. Good one, Alexandra. As much as I'd like to stop parting the Red Sea, I don't think I would feel safe with this drug.
  8. Na, mine are fortunately quite mild, and the presence or absence of your period is a fairly reliable pregnancy indicator.
