Does it hurt to have an IUD (birth control) in??

I had a baby 6 weeks ago and the doctor has suggested inserting an IUD. Any options or stories??

1. It doesn't hurt my sister. I have heard that it can hurt comming out. She cannot take alot of the birth control brands, so an IUD helps alot. I think its also a bit more effective since you don't have to worry about forgetting a pill one day.
2. IT DOSEN'T HURT, BUT THEY HAVE TO PUT IT IN WHILE YOU ARE ON YOUR PERIOD. ALSO THEY MAY HAVE TO CUT ( WHAT I CALL A STRING ) B/C WHEN YOU HAVE SEX IT MIGHT HURT HIM.
3. I have an IUD (Mirena) in, and I love it and would reccomend it to anyone. Mine was put in just after my 6 week appointment, and I have had it for almost 7 months now. I had no complications, and I don't even have a period anymore. My dr. says I won't have one until after they take it out, which can be as long as 5 years from when they put it in. Sometimes people tell you horror stories, but often those stories are about the copper IUD's that were used in the 70's. They don't use those at all now. 4. I LOOOOOVE my Mirena IUD (I dont recommend the other kind, its not as effective or safe) It hurt mildly to get it inserted, and had mild cramping and irregular bleeding for a breif period. But its nothing compared to child birth, ya know. Once its in and the cramping stops, you dont feel it at all. Its THE MOST effective and SAFE form of birth control on the market. It even has a smaller pregnancy rate than female OR male sterilzation (mirena= 0.1% tubes tied= 0.5%) Plus, should you decide to have another child, you can get it removed at any time and be totally fertile right away, unlike other birth controls. I love that I dont have to worry about it. Human error is the big issue with birth controls, and thats not an issue with the Mirena IUD. Plus, it lasts for 5 years, and you can get a new one right after that. I highly recommend it. The big thing for me, was wanting something that worked, without hurting my chances of having more kids, or other harmful side effects. It does have SOME side effects, but they are really rare compared to other birth controls, plus, you cant screw it up. Its just in there doing its job. Oh, and a GOOD side effect is shorter and lighter periods for many women after a year. YAY! oh, and it saves you money in the long run. doctors like to push the pill and patch, etc on women to make pharmaceutical companies more money. Those are things women have to take every day and rely on, so its better for THEM, not you. You have a good doctor, because they were up front with you and told you about something that is good for YOU, not their pocketbook. Compared to new options like Mirena and Nuva Ring, things like the shot and the pill should be obsolete
5. no it dont hurt going in, but it may bother ur hubby when having intercourse, and it feels like pressure when u finally do get it out. good luck on ur choice
6. I saw that someone put you have to be on your period to have an IUD. That isn't necessarily true. I don't know about all IUD's but Mirena says nothing (from what i have seen int the pamphlet i got from my doc) about being on your period. 7. I have had one for 4 years it worked a treat for me was absolutly fantastic no id dint hurt at all cos they give u anathestic.I recently had mine out was wanting to try for a baby and fell pregnant straight away so it dosent mess u up at all like some people say.hope this helps
8. if you are susceptible to getting infections, I would avoid it. try to depo shot or regular bc

Congratulations on your baby's birth, I Had the Marina IUD inserted 6 weeks after my daughter's birth and it was scary but it was a little pinch Its like a a pap smear then a pinch on the cervix to be inserted. They put a gel on the cervix to dull any pain, I found it a bit uncomfortable for the first hour or two until my cervix settled down from been aggravated but then it was wonderful. I had to check it while in the shower daily as their was strings there to make sure it was in place. I found it didn't hurt at all getting it removed when my husband and I decided to have another baby. Good luck. I found it great as I have 2 children and 3 pregnancy from the pill, this has been the most successful in preventing unplanned pregnancy's. And after my baby's birth next year I will be having another one inserted.
10. Ive had my MIRENA now 3 years and absolutely love it I plan on getting another one inserted after this one is removed. I suggest taking Ibuprofen b4 your insertion appointment to help ease the cramping I had mine inserted 4 weeks after the birth of my son so it wasn't painful. They sometimes have to order the IUD which takes up to 4 weeks If that's the case I would recommend taking evening prime-rose pills to help soften your cervix and also ease the pain that's what I plan to take when its time for removal
11. It hurt for me because i had not had a baby yet. After i have a baby I will get it again though because it is such a freeing idea and it is suppose to work better than even having your tubes tied!!
