Is it possible to become pregnant while using an IUD for birth control?
Iv'e had an IUD for 2.5 yrs, i usually have a very light spotting every couple months, no real period in years, no spotting in months, is that normal? iv'e gained some weight up front and am wondering, could i be pregnant?

- yea it's possible
- if u think ur pregnant PLEASE talk to your doc...cause if u r (not trying to scare you or anything, this is IF YOU ARE ) but removing the iud can cause a miscarriage in some cases ..cause the iud is against the uterus walls... But call your doctor you may not be pregnant and order to get pregnant you have to have your period.. I also read that spotting while using the iud is normal...Your doctor well know more about this then anyone on here..Unless they been through it...
- Very unlikely. Go buy at test and then you will have your answer.
- Pregnancy rate on IUD 0.1% Pregnancy rate with Tubal Ligation 0.5% With the newer models (late 90's up to now) its less likely than with the older models. They were recalled in the late 80's early 90's bc they were causing to many pregnancies but since then they have perfected them. So majority of the horror stories you hear will be with women who's kids are in their teens and older. Its very normal to not have a period or very little period while on Mirena I haven't had a period in 3 years since the initial spotting when it was inserted. Weight gain can be many other factors but the IUD isnt tied to weight gain since the hormones doesn't get into your blood stream (I hope I was able to ease your mind)
