Going from birth control pills to the patch?

this question has been bothersome to myself and my friend, since i am ttc, i dont really need to worry with it but i find myself doing it anyway. so heres my question. when switching from birth control pills to the birth control patch they tell you to use another form of protection the first month, does this mean that you will ovulate? and how is it that you wouldnt, if the patch is releasing hormones into your body?

  1. when i switched from the pill to the patch, no one told me anything like that. i didn't use any other protection, and didn't get pregnant. not sure if that really helps, but i think that if u are still using the pill and switch right after a period, that the hormones are the same and it shouldn't take ur body more than a day or so to react to the patch.
  2. use condoms. my friend got prego on the patch
  3. I will give my own (partially) professional opinion. Anytime you are trying to change the hormone rhythm in a woman's body, it will take a month, sometimes two to regulate. Your body must grow used to having the extra hormones. Secondly, I haven't read up on the patch but I believe it is just as effective as the pill. One big advantage of the patch is that it goes directly into the bloodstream. Whereas, the pill must go thru all the digestive organs (which is not necessarily good). Synthetic hormones going thru the liver or kidneys or other organs can be the cause of some problems. Use the patch EXACTLY as prescribed and change it exactly when due. Follow your directions to the letter.
  4. I got pregnant on the patch.....Anyways, please look into the patch a little more before going on it. There has been a lot of medical problems associated with using the patch. Sorry I'm not much help on your question, I just wanted to ask you to be careful.
  5. I know this isnt your question but Im on well was and i hated it. It doesn't stay on very well its crinkles and sometimes gets stuck to your clothes which pulls it.. Yes it's easier because I can't remember to take the pill but its just annoying.
