- You have to have a prescription to get the patch and any other birth control.
- You need a doctors permission/perscription to get any type of birth control. Unless you go to a planned parenthood, or health clinic in your area, they will let you get on it without permission.
- You need a prescription for most or all other forms of birth control, other than condoms. This is because condoms are the only method that prevent against HIV and other STDs. Before a doctor will prescribe another form of birth control, he or she will probably require you to undergo a Pap smear to make sure you don't have any STDs. Planned Parenthood also requires you to undergo a Pap, but the ones I've gone to have given me a 3 month supply to get me started since it's such a long wait until the Pap appointment. If your insurance covers it, go to a regular doctor. It's a much better experience than dealing with Planned Parenthood (although I think they're a wonderful non-profit and provide a very important service; I just don't like waiting 2 hours to be seen when I already have an appointment).
- no your doctor needs to writeyou a note to tell the pharmacy ok
