1. 6 weeks about it might be safe b4 then but to be completely sure it's 6 weeks .
2. When I was on it it took 30 days. I suggest condoms and foam in the mean time.
3. My doctor told me when starting any new birth control, you should use alternate protection for one month. But I think technically depo is safe before that.
4. my daughter's doctor told her absolutely no unprotected sex for a minimum of 6-8 weeks after her first shot. i say no unprotected sex ever until in a monogamous relationship and both partners would be ok if they had a baby. no birth control is 100% effective.

With the Depo-Provera you are protected against pregnancy immediately.You receive it when you are on your period, and it begins to work then, You can call your gyn and they will tell you, you are safe... But it still doesn't protect against std's and such.. But to prevent pregnancy.. it is wonderful... They did come out with some new info on the shot, and it seems that after two consecutive years on it... it begins to deplete the calcium from your bones, so you might want to take supplements...
