Can Seasonale birth control?

regulate irregular periods?

Public Comments

  1. Yes, regulate irregular periods into a regular cycle of once every 3 months.
  2. Absolutely...
  3. Hormonal birth control does not regulate anything per-say, it suppresses the menstrual cycle forcing menstruation to occur when the birth control 'tells' it to, it is a common misconception that hormonal birth control regulates the menstrual cycle – unfortunately a misconception that doctors perpetuate to cut down on work load and that women accept as an easy alternative to research and alternative treatment. As a result it may seem regular, however if there is a problem causing irregular periods then hormonal birth control [Seasonale or other] covers up the problem that can return when you come back off hormonal birth control. Hormonal birth control is also a pretty extreme method of regulating menstruation, if you have irregular periods then it is best to try all methods available to you in order to naturally regulate your period, failing that then it would be time to consult a doctor as there will be a more serious problem that needs to be addressed. Menstrual management such as the use of Seasonale is also highly debatable and still yet to be proven safe or healthy.
  4. Any hormonal birth control will regulate periods. Just be aware that Seasonale won't be "regular." Seasonale works by taking 3 packs of pills back-to-back without a break, so you only have a period 4x a year. But to answer the unasked question, your periods will be PREDICTABLE.
