Birth Control/Pregnancy?

Okay, so lets try posting this again since I got no response earlier. How long should you wait to take a pregnancy test? I'm only a couple days late, but I'm usually right on time. I just started birth control last month and though I took it religiously, we did not use a back up method. I keep having aches like I'm going to start but it just isn't happening. Could the birth control have messed my cycle up, or should I break down and buy a test? My birth control is Trinessa (generic Ortho-Tricycin)

  1. wait until you are at least a week late and see your doctor
  2. if u get one of those mew ones they tell u how long u should wait so look on one of the boxes sorry i cant help i never took one have a great day
  3. hmmmm....dont take the pilll....keep ur legs shut! noooo just kiddin i dont know
  4. If you started taking the birthcontol your cycle may change. If you stress about it may mess your cycle up. What kind of birth control? If you have been taking it for about a week ot 2 I think you should be fine but I would give it a couple of weeks. If you don't get it take a test or see your doctor. Good luck!!
  5. Different test work at different times during your cycle. so depending on what kind you bought it may not be able to detect a pregnancy just yet. However if you only been on the pill for one month and did have unprotected sex there is a high chance that you can be pregnant. It usally takes the pill one full cycle to actually kick in. Also home pregnancy of any type can give you a false answer. Say in another week you dont' get your period contact your dr for a blood test.
  6. i would purchase a first response test, they come with 2 tests for about $10, and are VERY acurate, as well as the only test that can tell you + or - 5 days before your missed period. chances are you aren't pregnant, and BC has been known to cause fluxuations in cycle, especially early on, but it's better to be safe than sorry. the sooner you find out if you are or not you can begin prenatal vitamins and schedule a check up with your OBGYN, to give the little one the best start. good luck.
  7. Wait a week after the time you are supposed to start your period. If you don't start your period within that week, but a pregnancy test. The birth control more than likely messed up your cycle though. Whenever my friends switch birth control products their periods get all out of whack too.
  8. If its only been a couple of days, wait and see if your cycle starts within the next week. The aches and so forth might just be your cycle and the birth control reacting to each other. If you still dont see a period this time next week, break down and get a pg test or make a doctor's appt and let him do it for you.
  9. Well from my experiences you know you body and if you have a concern then its better to know then have that question in the back of your mind and a test is only about 10 bucks for 2 in the box cant hurt to test all it would tell you is weather or not your pregnant
  10. take the test. it will make you feel better. i got pregnant on the pill, and i had been taking it on time eveyday for years! i had no idea i was pregnant until i just felt weird, my best friend made me take a test... sure enough.. now my daughter is 5 months old.
  11. When you first start on birth control (a depending of the hormone amount in them) it is possible that you will miss a period or two. This is one of the side effects of the pill but usually after a few months (usually 3) your body gets used to the pill, and you tend to have shorter, more predicted and less painfull periods. I would wait for at lease a week before taking the test; even the doctor will not be able to tell you for sure unless you do a blood test. Don't panic though, and don't worry because the more you anticipate your period to come the more it delays. Good luck. :)
  12. So many things can make your period come late. You have three options at this point: 1. buy an OTC pregnancy test, follow the directions exactly 2. call your doctor and request a blood pregnancy test 3. wait a week and then have the test done While it is rare to get pregnant when you are on birth control, it has been known to happen...especially if you didn't wait as long as you were supposed to wait to have sex after going on the birth control for the first time (you mentionned that you just started birth control) or if you missed a dose or two.
  13. If its bothering you this much, then just go buy a test right now. Hormones can totally mess up your cycle so it's really hard to tell.
  14. Birth control pills are not considered reliable in the first month. They are also not known to "mess-up" a cycle, in fact they are given for the exact opposite purpose ( to regulate periods) for many young women. Take a test as soon as you feel like you want to. Most over the counter tests are not accurate prior to five days past implantation. Carefully check the accuracy info on the box before choosing which test. If it is not clearly stated on the box, then ask the pharmacist ( especially a female & pro- choice one, because many members of this profession have shown themselves to be anti-choice and might give advice and recommendations that are not in your best interests.) to help you choose.
  15. since you just started taking the pill it may mess with your periods for the first couple months. if you still are unsure in a couple days take a test, but more than likely and hopefully you aren't pregnant. one thing i can think is if you have taken any anti-biotics while on the pill it will cancel out the pill, best to use back up protection like condoms and spermacides. i've had to take the pill to regulate my periods and it took 2-3 months to take the desired affect. if you have been religiously taking the pill and in fact are pregnant with the test immidiately see your doctor, if not you might want to talk to him or her about what kind of bc pills are right for you and which is the strongest and will regulate your cycles, if you need any more help just email me or add me to your im list i will be glad to help out even more. tc and hope all is well :)
  16. as a mother myself (at 21) i went through the same thing.....starting the pill can cause your cycle to stray then it should get on a regular basis once its in you good......the one thing i will add is that when you first start taking birth control it takes 30 days for it to get good in your system and unless you are using another method in the meantime you could get pregnant... you also might be late because you are stressing over it . stress can cause you to be late, so dont stress over it yet. as far as buying an pregnancy test i would want a week or two...hope this helps
  17. I'm assuming that you started taking the pill, if so, did you start the pill pack when you were supposed to? (Your dr should have told you when to start it) With most pills, you will get your period when you start taking the "spacer" pills, and they are the ones without any hormones. If you haven't started your period, and you have already taken the spacers, its time to get a test. If you are pregnant, you can test the FIRST day that you are late. You don't have to wait for weeks. With my son, I took the test when I was 2 days late, and with my daughter I was about 4 days late. The birth control could have messed your cycle up, but to be on the safe side, take the test. If its negative, don't worry about it until next month. Keep taking your pills as directed. If you don't get your period next month, test again. Hope this helps!
  18. I took a pregnancy test when my period was only 2 days late, it turned up positive...o and it was a dollar store one, Im now 9 months. Just to be safe you should go pick one up! Good Luck!! -Lorah
  19. Wait some more days. One week, or one week and a half. If still nothing, don't panic, and buy a test. Probably you are not pregnant, and because of psychological factors, you are late.
  20. When can I take a pregnancy test? The most asked question of any woman who is wondering if she is pregnant or not is “How soon can I test?” The answer to this question varies depending on what kind of test you buy. Before we go into the different types lets go over how they work and what they are looking for. How do they work? No matter what kind of Pregnancy test you buy, they are all looking for the same thing: HCG hormone. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin or HCG, is a hormone found only in pregnant women and is frequently referred to as the “Pregnancy Hormone”. The purpose of HCG is to keep the estrogen and progesterone at appropriate levels until the placenta has developed enough to take this function over. HCG production begins around 6-10 days after conception, when the embryo starts to implant itself into the uterine lining. Levels of HCG double approximately every 72 hours. At-Home Pregnancy Tests At-home pregnancy test are considered to be very accurate with a low occurrences of false positives. If used correctly they are about 98% accurate. The standard pregnancy test is only useful the day of your expected period or sometime after. It is best to use first morning urine since the levels of HCG will be concentrated and easier to detect. If you get a negative result but still not getting your period, you should wait a few days until your HCG levels have doubled and try testing again. Early Prediction Pregnancy Tests For the woman more anxious to find out if she is pregnant or not, there are at-home pregnancy test which are more sensitive and can detect lower levels of HCG than the standard at-home test. Most of the time these are more expensive than your standard home pregnancy test. Since every woman is different and they produce different levels of HCG, there is not an exact day you can test using an early predictor. These more sensitive tests can pick up levels of HCG starting around 8 days after conception. However, HCG is detectible in the blood serum of only about 5% of pregnant women 8 days after conception. So remember, a negative result may in fact be a positive a few days later. Most early predictor tests say they can detect pregnancy about 10 days after ovulation (about 4 days before your expected period). However, the earlier you start testing, the higher chance of getting a false negative. Blood Tests Blood tests given by your doctor or lab are the most accurate of all of the tests. They also can detect a pregnancy sooner than any of the home tests. There are a few drawbacks of the blood test however, the results usually take a few days depending on the lab and they are more expensive. Blood tests can usually detect pregnancy about 8 days after ovulation (around 6 days before your expected period). Most doctors wait to give you the blood test until you have received a positive home pregnancy test. Points to remember when using a home pregnancy test * Try not to test to early. It is best to test once your period is late. * The earlier you test, the more likely to get a false reading. * HCG levels double every two days. If you get an negative test, wait 2 days before retesting. This will help you save on the amount of tests you use. * Although many test say you can take the test at any time of the day, it is best to use first morning urine. This way, the test will get the most concentrated urine of the day. If you can not do this, try testing at least 4-5 hours after your last trip to the bathroom. good luck
  21. Honestly it could be either, but if you suspect pregnancy call your doctor, birth control pills and pregnancy can lead to some serious birth defects
  22. your birth control is going to mess with you the first three months. you'll be moody, and you may not start the exact day you start the placebos. i usually start about 2 or 3 days after. i was a mess until everything balanced out. just talk with your gyno. and ask about the side effects. oh!! and i just thought about it!!!! if you haven't been on it for a whole cycle and you aren't using a back up method... you need to be super careful as birth control does not take full effect the first month you take it. wait a week, and then take the pregnancy test.
