a more perminate birth control after pregnancy?

I am looking for a more perminate birth control after pregnancy, I dont think I want perminate, just long term. I have heard so many wishy washy things about the IUD. Any thoughts? (plus it does cost around $650 to put in) and as any b/c there is a possibilty that I wont like it and have to remove it. Help? your thoughts, any knowledge welcome. one more thing, how long do I have to wait to get an IUD in after birth?

  1. a dime held firmly between the knees! lol to be honest it's been awhile since I have had to take this stuff but I used to use the depo shot and it worked pretty well! i know they have a patch now too!
  2. you can try the shot except you have to get it every three month and it works wonders not that bad on your pockets either
  3. After I had my son I inquired about the IUD and the Doc had a lot of bad things to say about it. We went over all the options and ultimately I decided on the Depo Provera shot. It's a shot you only have to take every three months and for most women it makes you stop having a period at all after awhile (talk about win win situation) I loved it. I'm back on it now and very happy. I can't remember to take a stupid pill every day and the shot was the best choice for me. But every woman is different and what is best for some may not be best for everyone. Good luck on your quest and congratulations on the baby!
  4. I hated depo it surpressed all my horomones and put me into menopause at 22 and I had to stop taking it and go on fertility medication and give myselef shots of estrogen to get out of menopause. I am haveing a tubal but if I couldn't get that I would get the IUD they have some that don't release any horomones
  5. I was in the same situation after having my kids, and my doctor told me about all of the different things and the possible side effects. i decided to go on the depo shot. It is easy (you only get it every 3 months) and not many bad side effects. It is 99 percent reliable and if you go off of it to have a baby, it only takes about 3 months before you can get pregnant. I also think it only costs about 60 dollars for the shot. I dont really know anything about the other types of birth control, but my dr said that the IUD can be uncomfortable, and can make it hard to get pregnant afterwards.
  6. LOL I am DEFINITELY getting on something after this baby is born. LOL I've been pregnant for close to two years straight now because I wasn't on anything after my daughter was born. Condoms didn't work very well and occasionally broke. I personally am allergic to many things so I've also tried many things. LOL. The birth control patch is nice and you apply it once a week and remove it after 3 weeks to have a period and then put a new one on. I'm sure you're familiar with pills... I for one am interested in the one that gives you smaller periods. I've tried the nuva ring for a few days but it came out during sex and also I got a infection from it about a week after putting it in. I'm thinking about an IUD pretty strongly because the price actually when you think about it and add up $30 for pills every month for fiveyears and it adds up to $1,800 and I don;t have insurance so it's definitely going to cost around that much. The IUD is actually less expensive than the pill for me.
  7. not long at all i think 6 weeks at the most. My mom and all her friends have the i.u.d. and they LOVE it. No hormones, and completely effective NO MATTER WHAT. S***, you can't beat it. I am due November 14 and that's what my birth control method will be. I would re consider I think its the best one out there. Your insurance should cover it. If it doesn't i KNOW Medicaid will. :-) good luck
  8. My experience : Shot- Made my hair fall out (I'm Latina its more common in African Americans) I bled non stop for 9 months bad mood swings Patch I hemorrhaged while on it horrible mood swings My period was never the same after getting off the patch Only tried it 2 months!!!! Pills are great and I would def b on them had i not gotten pregnant 2x while on it and I took them religiously I laughed it out and said I'm very fertile Had no bad side effects only the good lesser flow, clearer skin IUD Is my new bestfriend!!!! The only side effects I have from it was spotting the 1st 3 months and no period after that! Its recommended for women who have had atleats 1 child since it may cause you to be infertile at removal (.08%) and also women who don't have children have a higher rate of expulsion bc their uterus is smaller than of a woman who has carried a full term pregnancy. Its recommended for those in a serious committed relationship! since if you do get an infection while on the IUD its harder to treat. EDIT: I had mine put in at my 4week follow up but 6 weeks is recomended the OB has to order it tho and that can take up to 6 weeks. If your insurance dosent cover it cost about 400
