Anyone who is on birth control (Lybrel preferably but not necessary?)?

What did you have to do to get a prescription? Did you have to have a pelvic exam, or did you just have to answer a bunch of questions? What kind of questions did the doctor ask? Do you think I can get a prescription since I'm only 14? I heard that you have to start taking it (Lybrel) while you're on your period. Is that true? Any other helpful info would be appreciated too. Thanks! I'm not going on birth control because I'm having sex (I'm not). I'm only going on it to stop my periods so I'm not so self-concious about them when I'm at school.

  1. When I got my prescription (Yaz), I had a full pelvic exam, just no pap smear. There were a lot of background questions (history of cancer, etc. my mom helped me on those), and personal habits questions (smoking, drinking, etc.). With my Pill, you can be a Sunday starter (start the Sunday after your period starts) or a Day One starter (start the first day of your period, no matter what day). I imagine most Pills are similar to that, but I've only ever dealt personally with Yaz and Yasmin (my friend). I got my perscription when I was 15, I had the worst cramps and birth control was supposed to help (it did!) so I imagine you being 14 isn't going to be a problem at all. Being on the Pill doesn't stop or slow your physical development, so you don't need to worry about not growing anymore (I was when I started taking the Pill because I was short and small-chested). Any more questions, feel free to contact me.
  2. If you have a planned parenthood clinic in your area I think they can help you get the pill and not pay for it. I was going to a clinic similar to planned parenthood and I got all my prescriptions and exams for free and it was all confidential.
  3. I started taking birth control when I was 15, so I'm sure if you have reason for taking it - nobody is going to tell you no. I think it's pretty common procedure to get a pelvic exam before they put anybody on birth control (as a safegaurd to check for any irregularities, cancers, STD's, etc.) and they usually give you a years worth of prescription refills and then to continue the next year you have to get another pelvic exam (to check again). Pelvic exams are not as bad as you think, just relax and remember that the person doing them does it for a living and there is nothing they haven't seen. Also, it's good to know that you aren't at risk for anything! Hope I could help, good luck!
  4. You have to have a pelvic exam...the doctor will ask you tons of questions, talk about sexual activity, partners, chance of pregnancy, std's etc...He or she will do the exam to check for things like std's (some are visible like warts and herpes) will also take some specimens for testing for things like abnormal cell growth which could signify cancer...etc...basically just to make sure that all your girly parts are nice and healthy. You can get a prescription BUT being that you are only 14 you HAVE to have your parents permission. As far as when to start the pill...I don't know anything about that articular one, I am on a pill called Ortho Novum 777. You can start that at anytime and it will work itself out to give you a normal period BUT they suggest waiting until the Sunday you have your period. (If you get it Sunday, start that day, if you get it saturday, start sunday, if you get it Monday, ,wait until sunday...etc) That way, you don't have it on the weekends usually.... May I suggest that If you are wanting the pill to prevent pregnancy, that's a good thing, but you also have to use something to prevent HIV and other STD's. Being that you are only 14, you really should think about things and see where you want to be and all the place you might end up if you continue having sex at a young age. I know that it's not something you want some one reaching down your throat but I was a mom at 19, lost "it" when I was 16 and when I look back, I wish I wish I wish I would have waited.... Good luck
  5. Well, it isn't safe to stop your periods. It is something that needs to happen.
