when is it affective to start Lybrel?

my doctor told me i would have to wait till after a get my one year papsmear before i start taking any birth control pill! So if i wanted to start taking Lybrel would it still work if i start it two weeks after my period? or will i still get my period because its not the sunday after my period?

  1. You are really supposed to start it either on the first day of your period or sometime soon thereafter (Like the next Sunday). Two weeks - I don't know if that's such a great idea. If you start after your period it will kinda blend into the cycle your body is used to. Starting in the middle of your cycle will make your body even more confused. And plus - at 2 weeks you may already be ovulating, which is exactly what the pill is supposed to prevent which makes it so you won't get pregnant. So then the pill isn't going to be able to work how it's supposed to. You should just wait til your next period.
  2. Because you will not have a regular period, lybrel is even more likely to cause spotting than other birth control pills. When you start it, you are likely to have lots of spotting for several months. So regardless of when you start the pill, the hormones are probably going to cause spotting, so you won't be getting away from bleeding for a while.
