Does anyone have experience with the IUD birth control Mirena?
I've read that after a year of use that 80% of women will have a lighter period...and 20% will lose their period all together..I've been on it about 9 months..and I've missed my last period..Should I just assume that it's the birth control..Or might I be pregnant?

- I would assume it's the birth control but pick up an at home pregnancy test for peace of mind :)
- I've been on Mirena for over a year now. Sometimes I still have a very light period and sometimes not at all. I have never worried that I am pregnant during this time. I hope that I will just lose my period completely but that hasn't happened yet. (too bad it doesn't stop the PMS associated with menstruation)
- I recently just got the mirena a couple of months ago, and I LOVE IT! I have yet to have my period eliminated completely but my last cycle was definitely lighter than the previous month. My OBGY said they will eventually become lighter and lighter and then eliminate all together. Are your periods light? I don't think I would be concerned, but maybe take a test just to be on the safe side since tubal pregnancy is possible.
- I think it is the effect of your Mirena coil. Mirena should protect you from unwanted pregnancy for 5 years after insertion. I take it you know you haven't lost your Mirena coil. Go to www.mirena.com If in doubt, do a pregnancy test (read the insert first!).
- I have it and I have been period free for three years. YES! Get a pregnancy test just to stop worrying, then you will feel much better. Good luck.
- I have a Mirena IUD and it took about 9 months before my periods stopped all together. I do get a bit of spotting some months. I agree with the previous answer and would do a pregnancy test just in case. It's best to know for sure.
- I used it for years. It was great. I think it is just the IUD. Unless something odd happened. Check with your Dr. In all the years I used one I had it replaced once, because it got bent and hurt a little, otherwise, no problem at all.
- I had Mirena also and LOVED IT!! My periods stopped completely within 4 months of having it put in. It's a little unsettling at first but was definitely a welcome side effect! Try a home pregnancy test just to put your mind at ease but I would put my money of the fact that it's just the IUD.
- Dude if you are on birth control and you're getting pregnant, get off that birth control! Lol if it's not controlling your birth, don't use it! Haha.
