- The problem with any extended-cycle pill such as Lybrel (or Seasonale for that matter) is that your body is "used" to a certain cycle...having a period fairly regularly. So when you first start using these extended cycle pills, you more often than not experience what's called "breakthrough bleeding" or bleeding that occurs unexpectedly and erratically. It can last a couple of months or it may happen for as long as you use that particular pill. I would suggest using a standard 21 day cycle, which usually comes with a 28 day pack (7 pills are placebos so you get your period). Sure, you'll still have a period, but it'll be shorter & lighter than without the pill, and you'll have good contraceptive coverage without the worry of breathrough bleeding.
