Birth control shot--When do I get the first shot?

I want to start the birth control shot. When do I get my first shot (during or after my period)?

2. if you are going on the deprovera shot you should read up on it first. i was on it for just under a year and now ive been off of it for a year in march and the doctor neglected to tell me that if you get the shot you may not beable to get pregnant for up to 2 years if you go off of the shot. and there is alot of side effects that go with it. some are serious like bone marrow loss which you cant get back once youve lost it! id look up on it first.go to walmart they give a long list of side effects more then the doctor or the pamphlet you get with the depro vera.
