How effective is the depo birth control shot?
I had my son July 15th this year... about 3 months ago and STILL havent had a period. I was given the shot before I left the hospital. these past few days Ive also had some spotting and tiny cramps... so Im kinda worried about being preggy again... Hubby would freak and so would I... my son is only about to turn 3 mos old. IF I am it would be too early to home test still. So my question is how long after you give birth should you have a period.. adn how effective is the depo shot? I am also due to recieve another shot Oct 16th......

- depo will actually stop you from having a period. Just be forewarned that you shouldn't stay on depo for more than a year. It is a very effective form of b/c... I'm surprised the side effects weren't explained to you, and how it works. What depo does is stops your eggs from maturing, which in turns stops you from having a period. It has also been known to cause a decrease in sex drive. You really shouldn't worry that you are pregnant, the chances are extremely slim.
- I'm kinda in the same boat, baby born july 9th and I had my first two periods right away! the third one....late! I had 3 neg tests already and started on the pills but the lady said these pills take a month to work and I hope they started working or something.
- The depo. can make you miss your period. I was on the depo. for 2 years and I hardly ever got my period. So I would say that, your not pregnant it's just a side effect of the shot. When you go back for your next shot I would just tell them what has been going on with you, and see what they say.
- One side affect of the depo is missing your monthly cycle. Don't stay on it for more than a year. I was never told that and was on the depo for six years and it has caused my bone density to decrease. In other words, my bones aren't as strong as they should be. Other than that it was a wonderful form of birth control.
- I WAS ON THE DEPO AND IT WAS EFFECTIVE I DIDNT GET PREGNANT. WEL NOW I AM BUT THAT IS BECAUSE I STOPPED USING IT AND 4 MONTHS LATER I GOT PREGNANT.. USUALLY WITHTHE DEPO YOU GET YOUR PERIOD ONCE EVERY 3 MONTHS SO EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE
- I got a depo shot on December 19 Th and I got pregnant in march. you should take a pregnancy test before you get your next shot, just explain to the nurse your symptoms and good luck.
