I just got the birth control shot like a month ago and I got my period is this normal?
I thought the point of the shot was to not get your period but I guess thats not true. It hasnt been a heavy period its been a very light one. So I was wondering if it was normal. If so how long can it last I've been on it for a little more than a week. Should I call my doctor?

- nope you still get it until you go menopausal or have a hysterectomy
- the point of the shot is to not get pregnant and not have to remember to take a pill everyday. Having no period is a side effect of the shot. You may not like your period but be happy that youre still getting it, think of it as a way of knowing your not pregnant.
- It depends mostly on your system. Some people who get the shot have no period, some spot constantly, some have normal periods, and some just vary. The shot isn't a for sure to get rid of your period. The only way to stop your period is to use birth control packs continuously (skipping the placebos.) And even then, many women will spot occasionally. You may just want to wait it out and it may get lighter or go away with time.
- Yes its normal. The only problem is that now you may bleed for a long time. Some people don't get it at all, but for those of us who do (me included) we get it for longer. I had mine for almost 2 mnths. But they say that after your second shot it wont be like that anymore.
- its normal. i had the shot and hated it because i bled the whole time. not heavy, very light but it was every day! i hated it! that shot can do all kinds of different things. maybe in time your period will go away but for 3 months straight i had one. hopefully not for you!
