can getting the birth control shot while im pregnant affect the outcome of a pregnancy test?

my doctor gave me the shot without doing a pregnancy test and i think i may be pregnant. i took a test and it said negative but i read online that the shot can affect the outcome of the test. im gaining alot of weight and i feel nauseated all the time. could i be pregnant?

  1. Are you referring to the depo shot? That shot can cause all of the symptoms that you are referring to and then some. As far as I understand the shot can not affect a pregnancy. But if you really think that you are you should go into the doctor and get a blood test so you can be certain.
  2. No, fertility drugs containing hcg are the only things that will interfere with an hpt. Even those will cause a false positive not a negative.The shot can cause some weight gain and nausea. If you are really worried call your doctor and request a blood test.
  3. What a stupid doctor. However, if the test came back negative then you may not be pregnant.. Your symptoms are probably related to the birth control... I gained A LOT of weight and was naseated the first month on birth control.... If you still think you may be pregnant, go ahead and talk to your doctor again.
  4. I really can't say if the BC affected the test, but I would say go get tested to make sure. I can't believe the doc didn't test first.
