I am switching from the birth control shot to the pill and need to know when I can start the pill?

I was on Depo for one session, three months, and it was amazingly nerve wrecking, I had only one period, and that was during the second month. I have finished my three months and decided to switch to the Pill, the instructions say to start the sunday after your period, but I havent had it in a long time and from what I heard most don't get it back for months up to a year.. is it safe to just start taking the pill? or do I have to wait?

  1. If you really dont know the answer to this question, you NEED A NEW DOCTOR, your doctor should have told you, dont goto a doctor that isnt clear with the directions and doesnt tell you what you need to do, maybe you should call him and ask
  2. Yes you can start now but DO NOT TRUST THEM for one month as you do not know where you are in your cycle right now. Make sure to take your pill the same time everyday and be aware you may have irregular spotting for the first three months on the pill. If you want your period to start during the week wait until Sunday to start the pack- if it does not matter then start now.
  3. It's absolutley safe to start. I would recomend a sunday start (just makes it easier because that's what most pill packs default on). Just be sure that you use back up protection (condoms) for at least one month, and I would say 2 just to be safe. Keep taking the pill--one per day--until you need a new pack. You're right that you probably won't have your period this month even on the pill because your body is adjusting to all the new hormones etc. Just take the 7 blank or "reminder" pills from this pack and start your new ones when you are done with the blank pills. All in all, you should be taking one pill per day, EVERY DAY from the day you start the pill pack.
