Can a parent force a 16 year old to get a birth control shot?
Is this legal? Is it child abuse? This child is not having sex and has no intention of having sex. The mother is doing this out of her own warped sense of parenting. I realize that a lot of young girls are having sex but this one is not. There are also some health issues with this young lady.

- It's for the kids own good so don't see how that could be construed as "child abuse" Whether its legal or not all depends on the situation.
- no but if you are going to be having sex you would be smart to take the shot . too young to be having babies live a little first.
- Why would you not want to get one? Want a baby at 16 or 17. Want to be grounded for 20 years? Want to ruin your life? And, yes, a parent can do this.
- yes they can, and personally i can see where they are coming from. they are doing it only cause they love you and want what is best for you.
- The parents are responsible for the child and that includes making sure that she does not become a parent until she is out of the house. Child abuse? I fail to see how this would be considered child abuse. They are not cutting the girl's arms off or beating her. They are preventing her getting pregnant for the time being.
- My goodness, I'm shocked at these answers! Maybe my opinions are skewed having come from a family where it's typical to be starting your own family around that age, I don't know. I didn't take that route, personally, but at 16, a person is old enough to get emancipated, have a driver's license and a job, and if they so choose, to get pregnant. Which also means that at 16, if the "child" so chooses, s/he is old enough to be responsible for him/herself. I think I understand what this mom is thinking, but I still think it's wrong. Her daughter should be making some of her own decisions at this point in her life. And it sounds to me like she's making some GOOD decisions, and that mom needs to have a little faith that she's not like my family, lol!
