Can anyone tell me the good and bad things about the birth control shot?

did it make you gain weight? when do you have to get the shot? how effective? did it have any side effects? I am considering getting it but i'm not sure.....

  1. Depo shot makes you gain weight like crazy. A good alternative I found to that was the Nuva Ring. No pill, you just worry about it once a month. Plus no horrible side effects.
  2. Good: You take it once for a month (no forgetting to take pill) It stops you from getting pregnant Bad: You can gain weight. IT makes periods irregular sometimes so you can never be 100% sure you are not pregnant.
  3. good thing you don't forget to take the pill, it's cheaper bad thing you don't get your period for 3 months which really is not good for your body, I know someone who got cervical cancer from it
  4. Depo shot made me gain weight and I had it right after having a baby I took it for one year, I suffered from chronic headaches and excessive weight gain. But with any birth control there will be side affects, I suggest looking into an IUD which is inserted through your vagina and protects against pregnancy for five years I think, the only side affects is cramps while on period, risk of infection (RARE) and it might alter you period a little. Check into it with your gyno.
  5. BAD!!!!!!!! I had this shot after my last child , i gained more weight from the shot than I did when I was pregnant, after stopping the shots it was about a year before my period returned to normal, it made me feel sick all the time, and I have been off of it for almost a year and a half now and still have all the wieght from it. I would never recomend this shot to anyone!!!
  6. man's vasectomy operation is the best thing for birth control.
  7. Don't get it!!!! It made me go crazy mentally, I think it had something to do with the hormone levels.
  8. Good Thing ... it prevents pregnancy Bad Thing ... it prevents pregnancy Now, pulling out also prevents pregnancy, and can be fun for the man ... especially if his wife is a "good wife" and swallows. This is the preferred method of birth control.
  9. I went on it after my 1st child and for 3 months no period, but I wanted to go on the pill so I did not get the next shot and I bled so bad the er thought I was having a miscarriage and I wasn't, it just made me bleed really badly, never again did I go back on it
  10. I've never had it but when I was using birth control I read up on all the options out there. Along with not having you period for months at a time, fatigue, weight gain and all that; I have heard that when you do finally want to get pregnant, it can make it harder for you to conceive. I have also heard that it is not wise to get the shot in consecutive doses. Its not healthy for your body to not have a period for such long interval without it being natural. For myself, I chose the birth control pill. I was on it for 7 years and it worked like a champ. Its less envasive than some birth control forms and you still get a regulated period each month. I would highly recommend the pill. If you are worried about remembering to take the pill each morning, then all I have to say is that its really not that complicated. Put it with your makeup, toothbrush or deodorant (things you use each day) and after a few weeks, you'll be used to it. good luck
