What birth control method do you prefer?

I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant and after I have my son, I want to go back on birth control. What type do you use and are you confident in its effectiveness? I was on the pill in the past, before I became pregnant, but am now considering Nuvaring or the shot this next time around... What is your preferred method?

  1. I have the Mirena IUD. I love it because they put it in and you don't really have to worry about. It's good for 5 yrs. Insertion didn't hurt for me, but hurt for others. My biggest gripe is you bleed off and on for about 3mo after, but most women don't even get their periods once it's established.
  2. I am on the depo shot and I love it. I know there are people who have had problems with it and the main drawback is that if you are one of those people you are stuck with the problems for the 12 weeks that it takes the shot to get out of your system. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but after too many pregnancy scares with the pill, I decided it was time to try something different. I have been on depo for almost 3 years and I no longer have a period which I LOVE!
  3. I had the shot and I didn't like it. Probably b/c I wanted them to give it to me in the arm and they wouldn't so I got it in the thigh. Yikes! It also screwed up my period which was a real pain. I was on the pill for several years after I decided not to get the shot anymore and think if I was to go on birth control again I'd stay with it. It's been around longer then Nuvaring or the patch or the depo prevera shot, and side effects can take years after things like this are made before they start being noticed. I think you should stick with the pill personally, but you should discuss it with your doctor and decide what method works best for you.
  4. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE NUVARING! It is so easy to use and you do it and forget it for weeks. It is comfortable and I have seen no side effects from it at all. Even tho we do have very busy life styles with a 22mnth old very active child we are not considering another child and we don't have that much time with the both of us in school and with her and working day and night we don't have much time for alone time it has worked well for us. I have been on the pill(no libido) the patch which i also did love but wanted to try this one, and I love it so far. Contact me if you wish i can give you a heads up on the more personal side of it and what other i have talked to have said, I will not type it since it is descriptive and could be offensive to some. But, I do enjoy it and it has not changed my sex drive like others have.
  5. I recommend the Nuvaring. That's what I used for almost a year until we decided we wanted to have a baby. I liked the fact that I could leave it in for 4 weeks before having to take it out. I've heard mixed opinions on the shot although I have personally never been on it. My friends and I love the ring... and when I took it out I got pregnant 2 weeks later.
