Is there a birth control method that wont make me moody?

I've been on several types of birth control (Nuvaring, Patch, pill) and they all make me so moody and gain weight. I used to be on Depo and it worked great but it thins out your bones. Can anyone recommend a birth control method that doesn't have so many side affects? I've heard of the copper IUD, is that effective?

  1. dont have sex - just lots of foreplay
  2. Abstinence? No, wait that would make you really moody. Try a diaphram or foam.
  3. The IUD works very well, but there are a few side effects. Read up on it. They are not even 100% sure how it exactly works. I would try a spermicide, condom and ALWAYS make him pull out before he "goes" no matter what he says, and what you are on. If you let him "go" inside of you the sperm can cause problems especially if he is a smoker.
  4. First, I was on the shot for YEARS and was never once told that it would weaken your bones... try a different doc if you want to go back on that (which I found to be GREAT!). You might also consider going with a mono-phasic (one chemical all month) pill rather than tri-phasic (3 different chemicals - one for each week). I currently use Lo-Estrin 1.5/30 - VERY low dose of estroidinol, so periods are regular, acne is nearly non-existent, and moodiness is a very minimal issue. The IUD is ok for some women, but is not necessarily recommended for women who have never had a child (the uterus is sometimes too small & stiff). The success rate for one year is about 90% (10 women will get pregnant in 1 year). I found my IUD to be far too uncomfortable and had it removed after about 5 months (I cramped ALL the time, and my period was unbearable!). Most IUD's also have a hormone in them, so they will possibly still give you BC-type side effects ( a fair percentage of women also have copper sensitivity and end up having it removed because of allergic reactions). Also, if you don't have a steady sex partner, it is NOT recommended, because the strings can transmit infections directly into the uterus and cause massive infertility in a very short time. Of course there are always barrier methods, including the diaphragm. This however is fairly scary to use (higher incidence of UTI's & yeast infections) & rather bothersome too. BTW, I got pregnant using a diaphragm (yes, with spermicide!) after only a year. So I became part of the 18% statistic.
  5. VCF works real well I have been using it for 8 years. If nothing else works for you then buy a toy then you wont need birth control. You can buy the VCF at walmart.
  6. I have had the IUD for 3 yrs now and I love it. Don't get the copper one though, get the plastic one that has very low doses of hormones in it. It is slightly more expensive, but your insurance will pay for it if you tell the doctor that you have really bad PMS, cramping and irregular bleeding. The hormones are localized and such a small dose that they don't make you gain weight or have mood swings. In most women with this type of IUD, you will actually stop having a period all together. In the first few months you will notice increased cramping and your period may be irregular, but after that your period will be more regular and will get shorter and lighter every month until it is gone or almost gone. I get very, very light bleeding for about two days. I no longer have cramps or PMS. Plus, you never have to remember to take a pill, change a patch or use a condom. I highly recommend an IUD. Best thing I ever did for my husband and I. Gives us the ability to be totally spontaneous. No planning, or worry. It's great!
  7. I have the copper IUD (ParaGard...www.paragard.com) and I LOVE it. It's non-hormonal, so it won't screw with your body. The main drawbacks are heavier periods and longer periods. This is only temporary though. After a few months, mine went back to normal. They can also fall out becuase they're so small, so you have to check every month to make sure you can still feel the string. They're good for 10 years, but if you do decide you want to become pregnant, you don't have to wait for your body to get back to "normal" like you do with hormonal birth control. It's also more effective than the pill or patch. I've had mine for a year now, and so far so good. :)
  8. Use a condom. All birth control will make you moody.
