Can my birth control deter a home pregnancy test?

My stomach has gotten so big and it looks like I'm about 3 or 4 months pregnanet. I've been taking Ortho Tricyclen for about 4 years and have always been consistant with it. Because I was so big, I took a home pregnancy test. It came out negative but the question was in my mind. Can my birth control prevent a home pregnancy test's accuracy?

  1. Yes it can, and taking BC while pregnant can screw your baby up, go to a doctor.
  2. no. your birth control will not affect the outcome of a pregnancy test.
  3. what is Ortho Tricyclen?
  4. no it can not. your probably just bloaded or just gaing some weight i know what you mean though because sometimes i get a bit big in the stomache area. doesnt necesarily mean your pregnant.... so dont worry.
  5. No. Pregnancy tests work by measuring a specific pregnancy-related hormone — human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) — in your blood or urine. The active ingredients in birth control pills don't affect how a pregnancy test measures the level of HCG in your system.
