Why are teens not insisting on using 2 forms of birth control? Pregnancy should be no accident in 2008!?

I mean that condoms and spermacides are both available over the counter and these products are affordable. If teens used two forms of birth control, then we wouldn't have the level of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases that are so high, statistically. I'm working on a term paper about teen pregnancy and I'm very interested in what people are saying. Why do teen boys choose not to use condoms when their girlfriend is not using birth control? DNA testing is going to identify a reluctant father if the mother wants to confirm paternity. Does anyone have any information they can offer so that I may include this in my term paper? Thank you.

  1. abstinence is wonderful too.... but i am one to talk...haha
  2. They're sleazy not to mention reckless.
  3. It's that part of a teenager that says "it won't happen to me... it only happens to other people"..... unfortuantely as a teenager they don't have the ability to see into the future and realize what "could" happen to them. Dr. Phil talked about this one time, he was talking about this happening and that is why teenagers think things that happen to them are the end of the world... they can't see past the "now".... same with sex.... they don't believe they will get pregnant until they do.
  4. People((not just teens)) believe that pregnancy and diseases aren't likely going to happen to them. You can't change anybody's mind. There are too many people for that.
  5. Just to go on the record that two forms of birth control can still result in a pregnancy. I've got the daughter to prove it.
  6. why is this question up here, everyone is entitled to live their life freely, and if they choose to not use 2 types, then thats what they choose ... #1 its not as easy to get both types of protection for every teenage girl. i mean and if they just so happen to get pregnant, then its them who will choose their next steps, not anyone elses
  7. hey....the most adorable thing is SEX... we cant stop young generation.....having their greatest fun of life.... See....Using Condoms is best but....most of us dont like 2 wear it while having sex.....bcoz of uneasyness or unfeelingness.... so if any new type of condom could be invented then New Gen wd accept it wid pleasure.... i mean ... condoms which keep the feeling of sex intact..&...untouched....at same time protecting from deseases Also boyz lik to spil-out thick semen inside vagina....not outside...sometimes.,,.,., Thats all!
  8. maybe they feel embarassed? i dunno. (:
  9. Cause when you get in the mood just dont think about getting two or three birth control methods ready.. I am married and me and my husband even forget to use condoms half the time. Plus if teens get pregnant i think it was meant to be.. and there is a reason behind it.
  10. I am fifteen years old and I am a virgin. But I would rather have sex before marriage than sex after marriage for various reasons. One reason I think teens don't use birth control is I understand they get so wrapped up in the moment that they might have forgotten they didn't bring protection perhaps or perhaps they're afraid it will ruin the moment and the heat will be gone. However, I'm not too sure about this theory though because I am a virgin so yeah. My other theory is that teenagers can be so ignorant in saying stuff will not happen to them. And yes, teens are like this. I'M a teen and I know this. Whenever for example we do an SOS drill the kids never shut their mouthes! Even though it's important that we treat this situation like it were to be a real one, but then a bunch of kids go, "Ain't nobody going to shoot up this school." Or, "Ain't nobody going to shoot me, I'll put someone in front of me, or run away, or fight back." I shake my head in their ignorance. Another reason that they might not use birth control is that they just don't know HOW. Yes they might know what a condom is (some don't) some might know what the pill is (some don't) but they don't know exactly how it works or what to do with it, or what it's for. That's why I'm against with the whole "abstinence only" sex education. It's not teaching them anything. The kids are still going to run around and have sex, the only thing worse than that is, they're not going to be protected when they do it, thus more risks at getting pregnant and having an STD. By the way, at my school's there are over seven pregnant girls at my school, while I do not judge them for their actions it makes me angered to know that obviously the whole abstinence program didn't work. In my opinion schools need to teach about birth control. Yes, they should still teach abstinence, but that's not enough. They need to teach the kids how to roll a condom onto a penis. The different types of birth control, what they do, what are they used to protect against, some side affects, how protective they are, etc. That way if the kids do have sex they might have some idea about protection. If they don't, then I can't say anything more. I hope I helped somewhat. :)
  11. I absolutely agree with you and i think people know what theyre doing and they just dont want to take responsability. Maybe they just think it wont happen to them or something.
  12. Birth control isn't always effective. Sometimes people use both forms and end up pregnant anyway. The only 100% way to prevent pregnancy or STD's is abstinence.
  13. haven't you heard teens talk? "It won't happen to me" There's the reason. Basically they don't think of what may happen when they have sex, they just think oh it's better without the condom or i can't/won't tell him to use a condom that's embrassing (heard it before yes, really) It's like they can do it, but don't or can't talk about it at all. I see these teens on a daily basis scared of being pregnant, all i can think of is man, I'd be scared of HIV/AIDS or herpes or warts or how about some nice HEPB or C for ya something that sticks around until it either kills you or you die of old age or something else. Forget that! I'd rather be pregnant! lol Pregnancy seems easy compared to what may be out there waiting for you. Atleast pregnancy doesn't kill you in a horrible way. but anyway, I think really it has to do with teenages not thinking of what may happen if they have sex and don't use some kind of protection. It's just scary out there.
  14. pregnancy can still be accidental in 08. why not use condoms that i don't know cause there are far worse things than babies out there in my opinion not to use condoms. but i was on both birth control and condoms and i still got pregnant. to me some things are just gods will. it don't matter what you do if god want you to have a baby your going to have a baby regardless. teen boys are just looking for the feeling its up to the girl to hold her part of responsibility
