how can i get my birth control patch to stay on?

i started the patch in january to regulate my periods, and i have three problems: 1) the stupid patches kept coming loose very easily. i talked to my doctor, she said that maybe it was a bad batch of patches and ordered me some more. now i'm using them, and they stick better but they are still coming loose. i use irish spring soap and no body lotion (my skin is getting very dry from this). 2)when i first take off the patch to start my period, i have bad migrane headaches. will those go away? i also have breast tenderness and... 3) a few days ago i started "spotting", and i AM wearing my patch (correctly, except for the edges not sticking well). in previous months i have NOT had this spotting, and i am curous as to why it is starting now (if it is just a side effect). the main question that i want answered is how to get my patch to stick better, because my doctor has no idea (she left her periods long ago if you know what i mean). thanks! i did swab with astringent, it worked but not alot. i wear my patch btwn my hip and my belly button, so i can see it if it comes loose & so no one else can see it but me (i don't bare my belly in public). i tried my shoulder once, that did NOT work well, and i can't wear them on my chest b/c of the hormones (that would make one breast grow larger b/c of the estrogen).

  1. Two words...... SUPER GLUE!
  2. maybe try using band aids to help it stick. or jus cut the sticky tape part of the band aid and put it on the sides of your birth control patch.
  3. Try swabbing the area you're going to put the patch on with alcohol or astringent, then put the patch on after it the skin dries. Where on your body do you wear it? I found that I had a lot better luck with it just below my lower back, and I would switch from one side to the other each week. I used to take a hot yoga class and would sweat buckets 2-5 times/week, plus showers, and the patch would stay on. You can try your upper arm, or chest, to see if it stays on better at another site. The headaches may or may not go away, they are hormonally induced and your body may or may not adapt. Spotting in between periods is normal, even while on birth control, it's commonly referred to as "breakthrough bleeding", it's nothing to worry about.
