Is it normal to not have a period when you use the IUD (birth control)? What happens to the blood?

- If you have the IUD with hormones, it prevents the lining of your uterus from building up, therefore it does not need to shed. Nothing "happens" to the blood. Its not like stuck up there or anything. Its normal, don't worry. I had the mirena for 3.5 years and never had a period after the first month.
- I don't think that is normal. My period was heavier than normal when I got mine. I can't imagine why you wouldn't have it, but since there is a risk of an ectopic pregnancy with an IUD you might want to get to your doc. Ectopic pregnancies are very dangerous. Of course it could be something else entirely, that's just what came to mind. BTW...you didn't say whether you had the one with hormones or the one without (copper)? OK...just looked it up...I'm only familiar with the copper one, the one I have and that would be abnormal. Not so with the Mirena. Depends on which one you have. :)
