IUD birth control questions.?

I am 26 weeks pregnant and am thinking about my options for birth control after she is born. I cant take the pill or the shot or anything "too" hormonal for that matter because I have a history of blood clots in my wrist from artery damage in my shoulder. What Im wondering is why do they say that candidates for the IUD (copper preferably) should be in a commited relationship. Im 23 and going through divorce as we speak. Im not saying I sleep around but I just wana be safe just in case I meet up with an old flame or something. I dont want to have another baby for a long time. Can anyone answer that main question for me? Any additional information about the IUD would also be greatly appritiated. Thank you for your time.
