Pink Spotting, Off Birth Control, Pregnancy?
I was on long term birth control (2.5 years) and stopped last month. My last period was on June 1st. Normally if I was to be on birth control my period would have arrived on June 26th. I saw pink spotting last night and all throughout today and it has stopped. I had unprotected sex a few times throughout the month of June. (I have also heard that getting off of long term birth control can increase your chance of pregnancy, is this true?) Well I took a pregnancy test in the afternoon which came out negative. But I did drink 2 bottles of water so I know this might have impacted the results. I was wondering if the first morning urine would be accurate this early on. I'm quite worried because I have an MRI scheduled in 4 days and the doctor said an MRI can be fatal for the pregnancy in it's first trimester. What was your experience for the first signs of pregnancy and did the HPT work for you?

- this is a Huge sign that you are pregnant. I would get a test. I think you very well could be. with me they were always right but they can be wrong so I would take more than one, and wait a few days the hormone level may not be enough yet for the test to detect.
- It can take a long time for the effects of birth control pills to wear off when you have taken them so long. You can get pregnant but a lot of people trying to get pregnant have hard time doing so until their cycle/hormones become regular. Odds are, it is just your period (even if your period was normally heavier that this on the pill). Your doctor can do a blood test and it will be more accurate than the home pregnancy tests that you are taking. They should know by then.
- Since you were on birth control for so long, it could also be your hormones trying to get back to normal self-regulation. Your average pregnancy test is generally accurate right after you miss your period, but after birth control ovulation patterns are off and hard to predict. Have your doctor order a quantitative BETA to see where you stand before the MRI. They can order it stat and it'll be back in an hour.
- Well, they say even if you don't use the first morning urine for the home pregnancy test, the test should still be able to pick up on the hormone... The pink spotting could be from the fact that you just got off birth control and your body is trying to adjust to that change... My guess is that you aren't pregnant, but only a blood test can tell for sure and I would recommend getting one before the MRI.
- you could be in a couple days if you still haven't started than take a couple more home test but your period could just be late from getting off birth control
- After you stop taking birth control your body goes thru a withdraw of sorts from not getting the extra dose of hormones you get from taking the birth control. Irregular withdraw bleeding and spotting is extremely common and can sometimes last for a few months after stopping birth control. I would say that its more likely that this is what you're experiencing. But given that there is always a chance of pregnancy when you're not protected, AND your having a MRI done, I would retest the morning before your appointment and then tell your doctor about your concerns. He may want to reschedule until after you have a blood test.
