What happens when you vomit on birth control pills?
If a woman vomits while taking birth control pills, how long should you use a backup method of protection? It was about 10-12 hours after she took the pill, so was it already absorbed into the bloodstream or not? What's the time limit?

- I would assume she is okay. If you miss a pill it really doesnt do much to your system.. and if it was like a half a day the pill should have already been absorbed. I wouldnt worry.
- should be absorbed but....if the stomach didnt empty all that time, then very little would be absorbed.
- If you have vomited that long after taking a birth control pill you should be fine--the medication would have been absorbed by then. However, the reason for your vomiting should be taken into consideration, as should any other medications you are currently on or may take as a result of the vomiting. HOWEVER, it COULD be a problem. And because it could be a problem you should definitely use a back-up method until your next cycle of pills (whenever there is a problem of any sort with BC pills you should use a back-up until the next cycle). It's always better to be safe than sorry! A few weeks of using condoms or even abstinence is a lot better than an unwanted pregnancy. Hope you start feeling better soon.
- if u have been talking the pill for a long time u should be ok, just make sure u take the next one at your usual time. most probably was absorbed but if u want to be extra safe use another form of protection for a couple of days so the next pill is absorbed.
