How fast are birth control pills effective?

I started taking Yasmin 28 birth control pills a couple of days ago, and I was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for it to be effective? I would like to have the option of having sex without a condom with my boyfriend, but without any unwanted surprises. Thanks!

1. i'd check their website, it must have that info on it. just keep in mind that without condoms, you can contract hiv. unless you are the first one your bf has ever been with ! it lays dormant for 7 yrs. I'd hate for you to find out in a few yrs that you've contracted it.
2. it takes about a month. after a month it takes effect, you body has to take to the hormone change you are creating with the birth control.
3. It only takes about a week for most birth controls. Although, yours may be different. Just check the instructions and see how long it takes. It should say "you need to use a back up contraception for (this long)" Just check the booklet, and you should be fine if you wait as long as the booklet says.
