I come from a family of diabetics, does this make serious birth control side effects more likely to happen?

My mother's family is known to have high blood pressure and heart-related disorders. I've been on the YAZ birth control pill for about 8 months now, since it was recommended by my clinic to reduce the effects of PMS and for my lighter periods. However, I was a little ignorant and did not read the serious side effects until now, which include risk of heart attack, stroke, and other heart related problems. Before talking to my doctor again about this (I go to my college clinic for it, and I can't see her for a while) I just wanted to know if theres a bigger chance for me to get these serious side effects from my family's known heart problems?

  1. Your best bet is to ask a pharmacist. Doctors are experts of the body, but pharmacists are experts of drugs. I've seen so many doctors write prescriptions of drugs that don't even exist or dose them wrong that it's not even funny. I would phone a pharmacist (or one who is familiar with your profile), and ask them, since they have access to the Yaz pamphlet, and they should be able to answer best. Good luck!
