  1. I'm unsure if there are any side effects that will affect you later in life, but I was on it for almost 3 years and nothing has happened to me yet. I also have a feeling that if there were some awful side effects down the road, then they would have stopped prescribing it. Birth control pills are not by any means a new thing, and have been around for at least 20 years. I have never heard of any woman having serious side effects, but I would ask the doctor. By the way, you do not need your mothers permission to get on birth control. I'm not saying hide it from her, but I am suggesting that you do not need parental consent to be prescribed birth control. If possible you can go to Planned Parenthood and they can prescribe it for you, or even your regular doctor. Doctors are bound by a privacy clause that they can not tell anyone what you are taking or why you came to see them, even your parents. I would suggest talking to your mother about it again while your doctor is there. The doc can give her all the facts and than maybe she will change her mind. I commend you for taking control of your body.
  2. yes your mom right heart problem strokes high blood pressure, weight prob many of these are blame on birth control pill , if your are on them to long
  3. There are a lot of side effects caused by birth control. Increases you chance for cancer, stroke, every hormone related problem you can think of. The list is long and the younger you start the pill, the longer you will most likely be on it, will increase these chances. You didn't give your age, but if you had to ask your Mom you are under 18. Wait until you are older. Your body is still developing & you don't want to add extra health problems to you life. Listen to your Mom. Don't just think about yourself now, think about the you in 10, 15, 20 years. You want to be healthy, maybe have children in the future.
  4. NO! BC pills are perfectly safe after you go off of them. Depo the shot on the other hand is not. It can cause serious long term effects. You can be put on them without asking your mother.
  5. Oral contraceptives may increase your risk of some types of cancer, including breast, cervical, and liver cancer. There are also some more immediate potential risks and side effects that you should be aware of when deciding to go on the pill. You should talk with your mom (since it doesn't seem like she is against you using birth control) and with your doctor to help you decide whats the best choice for you, because no one method of birth control is right for everyone. Remember that condoms are the only method that will protect you from stds and not just pregnancy.
